Tanning group PrimeAsia has calculated that its employees in Taiwan, China, Vietnam and the US have provided a combined total of 2,517 hours of voluntary service to community projects in the course of 2014. This figure represents an increase of 15.2% on the number of volunteer hours the group’s 2,500 employees provided in 2013.

“Community service is part of PrimeAsia's corporate commitment to create long-term partnerships with communities, customers, employees, the environment and suppliers,” the company said on announcing the 2014 total.

In highlighting a few examples, it said 19 members of staff at the PrimeAsia China tannery in Dongguan had recently visited a nearby nursing home to entertain and help the elderly people living there.

Twenty employees from the PrimeAsia Vietnam tannery in Ba Ria-Vung Tau spent a day carrying out repairs to a school for disabled children in nearby My Xuan.

For the team at the PrimeAsia office in New Hampshire in the US, the stand-out volunteer project this year involved 12 people spending an afternoon clearing trash from Hampton Beach, while the team in the group’s office in Taiwan donated leather to help a local children’s home launch a fund-raising craft project.
