Renowned Dutch designer lends weight to Mongolian tannery project
Renowned Dutch fashion designer Hans Ubbink has travelled to Mongolia as part of the MVO Nederland project and will launch a spring/summer 2015 collection made in the country using locally produced leather.
Mr Ubbink has expressed a desire to reposition his brand, focusing more on sustainability and organic fashion products.
Utrecht-based corporate social responsibility organisation MVO Nederland announced details of the Netherlands-led initiative in June. The aim is to help develop the country’s tanneries and implement more environmentally friendly practises, while boosting its leather garment, bag and footwear making capabilities.
Herman Hulshof, former chief executive of tanning group Hulshof Royal Dutch Tanneries, and leather chemicals manufacturers Stahl and Smit & Zoon are also involved in the project.
