Lear to boost manufacturing capability in UK

15/09/2014
Seat manufacturer Lear plans to double the size of one of its UK factories on the back of recent expansions of Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover in the country.

The North East is hoping to capitalise on the growth of the automotive sector and representatives from councils, automotive manufacturing, the supply chain and MPs will attend a roundtable at the House of Lords at the end of October to discuss 'right-skilling' the UK labour force.

Lear’s Sunderland-based plant will be extended by 3,500sq m to house additional equipment. It currently employs 420.

At the end of August, Lear confirmed its acquisition of automotive leather supplier Eagle Ottawa.
