Delvaux director voices concern over leather shortages

The research and development director of Delvaux, Joan Fallière, has said the Belgian luxury leathergoods brand is having to pay annual increases of around 8% to continue to secure high-quality leather.

In an interview with a Belgian fashion magazine, Mr Fallière said falling meat consumption in Europe had led to a shortage of high-end European hides, adding that material that is more readily available, from origins such as South America, has many more defects.

“Securing supplies of leather remains a major concern for the luxury sector,” he said.
