Zimbabwe mulling tax on exported hides

The government on Zimbabwe is “actively considering” the level of export tariffs for raw hides in a bid to keep more skins in the country.

Minister Mike Bimha said: "I have been reminded to implement the proposed levy or tax on the exportation of raw hides which starves tanners of their basic raw material and the shoe manufacturers of locally produced and value-added leather.

He said he would announce the rates “shortly”.
