Weakness in yen hits Hermes

07/11/2013
French leathergoods company Hermes saw sales grow 13% at constant exchange rates to EUR 895.5 million in the third quarter.

However, it was hit by weakness in the Japanese yen; the company said currency fluctuations knocked EUR 116 million euros of its nine-month turnover of 2.66 billion euros to the end of September.

The leathergoods and saddlery division grew 9% as new manufacturing plants in Isère, Charente and Franche came onstream.

Two stores were opened in both China and Japan in the quarter, and in the US, the Beverly Hills store was inaugurated in September after being enlarged and renovated.
