Chinese investors to back cattle projects in Kenya

The authorities in the Kenyan region of Laikipia say they have secured commitment from Chinese investors to fund meat processing, dairy and perhaps leather-making plants in that part of the African country.

Laikipia governor, Joshua Irungu, has told local media that meetings have already taken place and that discussions have gone well. He said much-needed jobs, increased profits for farmers and a boost to the economy in general were certain to follow.

“Beef and milk processing have been given priority as they are the backbone of Laikipia,” he said. “We are also seeking ways to improve the value addition of our products.”
