Thailand to host leather promotion week
Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) is hosting a week-long event to promote the country’s leather industry after reporting a 4% growth in exports in the first four months of the year.
More than 17 billion baht-worth ($550 million) of leather was exported from January to the end of April, according to the DITP. In 2012, leather exports generated nearly $1.7 billion.
The government has funded leather technology and machinery as well as boosting branding and marketing spend, and said as a result, domestic leather exporters have been able to increase business in Denmark and South Korea as well as traditional markets including the US, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and the UK.
From June 21 to 30, the exhibition will be open from 10am to 8pm at the DTIP in Bangkok.
