New Italian credit facility for Ghana

Reports from Ghana say the Italian government is to provide a new credit facility of EUR 10 million to support the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the African country, with further fund possible in the future.

Italy first set up a project to support SMEs in Ghana in 2003, but its current ambassador in Accra, Laura Carpini, announced the new credit facility at a meeting on May 22 with Ghana’s trade and industry minister, Haruna Idrissu.

The two discussed industrial initiatives that can benefit from the new credit facility with the leather-sector among the examples. They also said leather projects would benefit from partnerships between Ghanaian and Italian companies.
