Aimpes backs virtual exhibition idea

Italy’s leathergoods manufacturers’ association, Aimpes, has said a new, virtual Mipel exhibition will inject new life into the show.

The March 2013 edition of the Mipel exhibition in Milan was the 103rd in the event’s history. Aimpes used the occasion to launch a parallel virtual event, @mipel.

One Aimpes director, Andrea Bonfanti, from Varese-based handbag brand Bonfanti Borse, said of the new event: “The objective is to make the fair experience last as long as possible. We also want the general public to know about the medium and small businesses that are the backbone of Made in Italy. Big designer labels are able to invest big budgets in advertising, while our artisans make excellent products that, most of the time, don’t become well enough known.”
