US demand will drive premium car sales - Nissan

Johan de Nysschen, brand chief at carmaker Nissan, has said he expects to see the premium car market grow 8% next year, boosted by demand from the US.

He was speaking ahead of announcement that the Japanese company is to rename its premium Infiniti range, hoping to appeal more to European and Chinese customers.
"With the global market expanding from the US where we are strong, that bodes well for us," he told Reuters.

From the second half of next year, Infiniti cars will carry the prefix Q, followed by a number reflecting its size. Crossover and SUV names will begin QX. The changes will "promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio", the company said.

Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn has pledged to build Infiniti vehicles in China and a new premium compact sedan in Europe.
