International leather industry organisations offer united leadership

At a meeting on 8 November 2011 in advance of the World Leather Congress in Rio de Janeiro key representatives of the International Council of Tanners (ICT), the International Council of Hide and Skin Traders’ Associations (ICHSLTA) and the International Union of Leather Technicians’ and Chemists’ Societies (IULTCS) reached agreement to collaborate on the promotion of leather. The three organisations expect to ratify a memorandum of agreement sealing this collaboration.

The organisations plan to co-ordinate a worldwide strategy to clarify legislation and standards covering the definition and designation of leather and leather products and to work together to promote the correct use of the leather mark to identify leather and leather products on the market. A further meeting is planned for January 2012 in Turkey, to discuss further details.
