Northampton hosts leather industry engagement day
09/11/2017

Companies from across the leather supply chain, including leather chemical suppliers Smit & zoon and Stahl, tanning groups Scottish Leather and Ecco Leather, automotive group Rolls-Royce Motors and luxury leathergoods brand Mulberry, gave talks to the students about the leather industry and the career options leather professionals have open to them.
As a conclusion, students took part in a lively debate on the subject of brands and counterfeiting.
ICLT director, Rachel Garwood, said she felt sure students would also recognise the high levels of passion with which participants spoke about the leather industry. She commented that people who move into the industry often spend their entire careers in it, travelling, meeting people from all corners of the world and engaging in interesting and valuable work.
Students were later able to visit stands that participating companies had set up at the university, see some of their products, including a Rolls-Royce car, and ask questions. As well as the companies that sent speakers, those taking part in the exhibition included Pittards, Church’s, Tusting and the UK Leather Federation.
