Following speculation in May that automotive tanning group Eagle Ottawa was up for sale, media in the US, including the Wall Street Journal, are now reporting that a deal is close and that automotive seat manufacturer Lear Corporation has emerged as the likely buyer.

Current owner of Eagle Ottawa, investment firm Everett Smith Group, confirmed in May that it was willing to listen to offers for the tanning group, which has tanneries and finishing plants in various locations around the world.

Lear Corporation describes itself as the largest consumer of automotive leather in the world.
