Pittards picks up Walsall leathergoods firm

Somerset-based leather manufacturer Pittards Plc has completed the acquisition of the business assets of Daines and Hathaway Ltd, a Walsall-based manufacturer and distributor of premium leathergoods and accessories that went into administration in mid-October.

Pittards has said the acquisition will allow it to develop further its strategy of supply chain integration; leathergoods produced at the former Daines and Hathaway site will support Pittards’ own factory shop and online retail operation, while also allowing the Walsall operation to continue its business of supplying luxury leather accessories, principally to UK brands.

”Our present strategy means that an acquisition of this nature is very timely,” said Pittards’ managing director, Reg Hankey. “We have already been building up our skills in the design and manufacture of finished products to assist the development of our business internationally and in this way we can move forward more quickly.”

The move further strengthens Pittards’ links to the town of Walsall, a centre for leathergoods production in the UK and already a key selling area for the group’s saddlery leathers.
