BLC Leather Technology Centre has engaged in a new exclusive partnership with Intertek Testing Services Limited Shanghai to provide testing services for China's leather industry.

The organisations have said they want to "expand and enrich the quality of leather testing, certification, technical support, and consultation services available in China". The services available to China's leather sector through the agreement will include physical testing, chemical testing, whole product testing, inspections and advice on national and international safety standards.

Calvin Yam, president of Intertek Consumer Goods Asia Pacific, said on announcing the development: “This unique collaboration of expertise between both parties will enable local companies to reap the benefits of having the right mix of expert solutions in their very own backyard.”

For his part, Adam Hughes, commercial director at BLC said: “This collaboration between BLC and Intertek in Shanghai provides customers of both organisations with access to a quality local leather and leather product testing provider, with the added reassurance of a thorough understanding of the material being tested and the manufacturing issues that can occur.”

Testing solutions available will help Chinese leather manufacturers eliminate azo dyestuffs, chrome VI, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, and other substances. It will also allow them to check the ph, colourfastness, tear strength, oil repellence, water spotting, flex resistance and abrasion resistance of the leather they produce.
