The China Leather and Footwear Industry Research Institute has funded a month-long study trip to Beijing for more than 50 leather technicians from developing countries, with participants from Tanzania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria representing Africa.

The institute has said it wants to share the know-how China has built up in leather in the last 20 years. Yu Shuxian, a senior engineer at the institute commented: “We want to help developing countries grow their industry.”

The course will also encourage delegates to build up expertise in using Chinese-made leather machinery, possibly with a view to promoting investment in the technology from the leather industry in their countries.
