First-time leather conference a success
15/05/2008
A conference on the leather supply chain, organised by World Leather and by consultancy Leather Wise, took place near Oxford today.
It was the first time the event, 'Leather—From Beast to Beauty’, had taken place.
Around 100 delegates were in attendance to hear a keynote speech from designer of luxury leathergoods Bill Amberg, presentations on the whole of the leather value chain—from livestock to fashion applications and aftercare of leather products.
There were displays of footwear, bags, jewellery and interior decoration materials put together by 20 design students from a range of colleges around the United Kingdom, whose participation at the event was sponsored by the Leathersellers Company.
World Leather publisher, Simon Yarwood, said at the end of the conference: “I want to pay tribute to the founders of Leather Wise, Chris Powley-Williams and Amanda Michel, for the phenomenal effort they have put in. It's been an absolutely stunning effort. I've been to a lot of conferences over the years and today has really been one of the most interesting days. We've had first-class presentations on a whole range of topics.”
He went on to thank the companies that had sponsored the conference: the Leathersellers Company, APLF, Pittards, Intertek and Clayton of Chesterfield.
