PETA demands ban on live sheep imports from Australia to UAE

According to local media, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been lobbying in the Gulf against live animals being imported from Australia to the Middle East, claiming it is not halal.

PETA’s Dr Edmund Haferbeck is expected to meet with the minister of Environment and Water Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Kindi later this week to discuss ending the imports.

The UAE currently imports approximately 230,000 sheep from Australia each year.
