India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) is planning to implement and upgrade wastewater treatment units at the common effluent treatment plants in Erode, Perunudurai and Melvisharam in Tamil Nadu. The new or upgraded units will be able to treat effluent capacities ranging from 600 to 2400 m³/day.

The project will also include establishing a membrane system for the recovery of water from the treated effluent.

Tenders will soon be invited for the project as well as for the construction of secure landfill system in the tannery clusters at Chennai (Pallavaram), Ranipet, Melvisharam, Dindigul, Perudurai and Pernambut, also in Tamil Nadu.
