Rhodia begins second phase of Footwear Project

06/02/2006

Brazil-based Rhodia has started the second phase of its Footwear Technology Project, which seeks to strengthen the leather, shoe and component industrial chain. Recently, the company participated in IFLS (International Footwear and Leather Show) which was held in Bogotá, Colombia and also supported the 10th Shoe and Accessory Design and Technology Forum, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Leather, Footwear and Leathergoods Components (Assintecal).

According to Antonio Sergio Luvizeto, coordinator of the Rhodia Footwear Technology Project, giving support to these events is part of the company's strategy to work together with the whole productive chain and the R&D centres operating in the sector. Besides helping to add qualifications to the Brazilian footwear sector Rhodia supports designers and stylists as a way to contribute to the evolution of its brands and products.

In the last few years, the production of leather and footwear components has taken a larger share of Rhodia's business and the company expects a growth of 10% in this field over the next two years. Developments cover technologies, processes and products including adhesives, high tenacity industrial sewing threads, nonwovens, raw materials and reinforcement agents for soles, engineering plastics, silicones and leather tanning improvement products.
