Rhodia unveils three tanning products developed with Brazil’s leather sector

Rhodiaeco Cromofix is a complexing agent that makes efficient use of chrome, reducing the effluent; Rhodiaeco WB Conditioner reduces process time and increases productivity, replacing sulphuric acid in the pickling step; and Rhodiaeco AiS is used in the liming process.
Rhodia says it is also offering an Efficium breakthrough silica for productivity and performance, as well as new oxygenated solvents for adhesives and leather.
It launched the developments at Fimec, the 39th International Leather, Chemicals, Components, Machinery and Equipment for Footwear and Tanneries Fair, which took place in Rio Grande do Sul in mid-March.
The leather and footwear sector accounts for around 7% of annual chemical sales by Rhodia in Brazil.
Marlise Margaritelli, marketing manager at the Solvay Group, said: "We created these new products to meet the needs of customers and the market that are in search of competitive alternatives and high performance products. They are innovations that contribute to the improvement of the process and reducing the generation of effluent in the leather tanning process.”
These products were developed at the company's Polyamide & Intermediates laboratory that was recently built at the Research Center in Paulínia, at an investment of €1 million. Development was also supported by the group's international research centres and laboratories owned leather companies the sector in Brazil.
