Thai automotive leather producer, Chai Watana Tannery Group Plc (CWT), has predicted that its sales will increase 25-30% during 2004.

According to CWT’s director, Weerapon Chaitheerath, the company is expecting a high level of orders from Japanese car assemblers during the year and is also hoping to strike a deal with the leather sewing subsidiary of US carmaker, General Motors, in South America.

During the first quarter 2004, the organisation’s sales totalled Bt421 million ($10.4 million). The majority (60%) were generated by its automotive leather business while the remainder came from the sale of leather for animal toys and furniture.

Chaitheerath added that CWT, which has a capacity of 2 million square feet of tanned leather per month, expects its net profits to total Bt39 million ($961,049) during 2004.
