Media in Kenya have reported that preparations for a new abattoir to begin operations are now complete.

The new facility, in Isiolo in the centre of the country, is to be officially opened by President William Ruto before the end of the month.

Reports say the abattoir will play a central role in modernising the livestock sector in Kenya, making it more viable for businesses there to add value locally rather than exporting live animals.
