Kenya commissions leather park water supply
Kenya's Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has commissioned new water infrastructure to serve the Kinanie Leather Industrial Park in Machakos County.
Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Julius Korir officially launched the project on July 30, saying the development will provide a dedicated supply of clean water to leather processing facilities within the industrial zone.
The Kinanie Leather Industrial Park Water Supply Project includes a 25-kilometre high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline and a 1,000-cubic-metre storage tank designed to support industrial operations and local community water needs.
Implemented by the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency (TAWWDA), the project received government funding of Ksh292.77 million (€1.95 million) for its Phase II and Phase III development stages.
Officials said the infrastructure is intended to address long-standing water supply challenges in the area and support the continued development of Kenya's leather manufacturing sector.
