Price boost for US beef exports, but China obstacles remain
US beef exports for the month of May reached 91,925 tonnes in volume and brought in revenues of $818.1 million. These figures represent a fall of 5% in volume compared to the same month last year, but an increase of 2% in terms of value.
The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) said customers in some parts of Asia had paid higher prices for US beef. However it also said May exports to China “remained minimal”. China recently renewed the registrations of some US beef plants for shipping beef to China, but USMEF said technical obstacles “are yet to be resolved”.
In general, the export value per head of US cattle reached $468 in May, which USMEF said was the highest in nearly four years.
