Council backs Leather Museum review
Campaign leader and leather fashion designer Lauren Broxton has welcomed what she described as a significant step forward in efforts to keep the Leather Museum in its historic location.
Writing on LinkedIn following a full council meeting, Ms Broxton said she had raised questions about the proposed relocation of the museum, including concerns over planning policy and the decision-making process. According to her account, councillor Elaine Williams responded by saying the matter was being investigated and that reports were being prepared by council officers, with a written response to follow.
Ms Broxton also said councillors approved motions from Walsall Community Independents and Reform UK calling for a review of the previous administration's relocation plans and the publication of key documents, including the feasibility study, lease agreement and associated costs.
According to Ms Broxton, amendments approved during the meeting included a requirement that information be released "without further delay" and that the museum should remain in its historic location.
The Leather Museum is a long-standing part of Walsall's leather-making heritage and campaigners have argued that it should remain at its current site.
