Nigeria invests in facility to boost livestock sector
The Nigerian government has announced the creation of an abattoir built to “international standards” that will also process hides and skins as part of a programme to modernise the livestock industry, according to local press.
Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Nigeria’s Minister of Livestock Development, said the facility could support between 7,000 and 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, including in meat processing and leather production.
The minister said Plateau State was selected for the project because of its strong agricultural base, livestock activities, favourable climate and the presence of the National Veterinary Research Institute in Vom.
