Red Wing diverts leather waste

US footwear manufacturer Red Wing Shoe Company has announced it has diverted 1.87 million pounds (approximately 848,000 kg) of leather waste from landfill across its Red Wing, Minnesota facilities since September 2025.

The company said the result was achieved through collaboration between its corporate social responsibility, manufacturing, supply chain and S.B. Foot Tannery teams, which worked together to strengthen circular approaches to leather waste management.

All leather waste from the Minnesota sites is now processed into biochar, a carbon-rich material used to support soil health and long-term carbon storage.
