Record beef exports for Australia

15/12/2025

Even before 2025 has closed, Australia is reporting record beef exports. In a statement, red meat promotions body Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) said beef exports were on track to exceed 1.5 million tonnes.

MLA’s general manager for international markets, Andrew Cox, said that, in spite of the imposition of tariffs on Australian beef, exports to that market were up by 17%.

At the same time, shipments of beef to China are up by more than 40% year on year.

Mr Cox also pointed to increases in the volume of beef exports to Japan and South Korea, by 2% and 10%, respectively.

Also of note, he said, was an increase of 73% in exports of beef from Australia to Canada. Volumes of exports to that market will, this year, be above 50,000 tonnes for the first time.
