Market Intelligence: Joint projects could be the key

A new edition of Leatherbiz Market Intelligence went live on November 25.

This time, our exclusive newsletter picks up on the point that, beyond weak demand for leather, there is still a “lack of creativity” in identifying new applications for the material.

It describes leather as “a highly successful and versatile material”, but insists the industry needs to be more active in finding new customers and new markets, instead of simply waiting for its fortunes in previously strong markets to turn around.

“Meaningful progress will require joint initiatives,” it concludes, “with leather users and tanneries working together.”
