Australian beef industry reports record sustainability gains

30/10/2025
The Australian beef industry has reported major environmental progress in its 2025 Annual Update under the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework (ABSF), as reported by Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).

Since 2005, net CO2-e emissions have fallen by 70.1%, mainly through carbon sequestration on grazing land. Beef production reached a record 2.75 million tonnes, while solid waste to landfill dropped by 71.6% between 2022 and 2024.

Chair of the ABSF Steering Group Patrick Hutchinson said the results show that sustainability has become a competitive advantage for the sector.

The framework has identified feed sourcing, traceability, and innovation partnerships as future priorities, aligning with global reporting and sustainability standards.
