Judges praised the design for its originality, ecological focus and commercial promise. Harper’s Bazaar Taiwan editor-in-chief Kora Hsieh called it “a very thorough, well thought-out concept with huge potential for commercialisation.”
Mr O’Grady said the award would help him take his idea to market: “My dream is to turn it into a real product that changes how people buy, wear and sustain their shoes.”
Other finalists from Italy, Vietnam, Jerusalem and Taiwan were commended for exploring themes of sustainability, craftsmanship and nature.
Leather & Hide Council of America president Kerry Brozyna said the RLSD programme “equips young designers to challenge fast fashion and redefine responsible design using sustainable, natural fibres.”
Now in its fifth year, RLSD received nearly 1,500 entries from over 75 design institutions worldwide and continues to promote design-led sustainability across the global fashion industry.
