Market Intelligence: The right people in the room

We published a new issue of our Market Intelligence newsletter, with our exclusive report on the current situation in the global leather pipeline, on September 30.

Naturally, the report devotes much space this time to the recent Lineapelle exhibition in Milan. It says the show “confirmed its importance to the global leather sector”.

It explains that one big benefit of representatives of all parts of the supply chain gathering in Milan is that business decisions that would typically take weeks can take minutes at the show. “The right people are in the room, physical samples are on the table and technical details can be clarified without intermediaries,” the report explains.

Nevertheless,  a pronounced uncertainty about the future remains in the sector.

Leather can holds its own in high-value segments by virtue of a widespread acceptance of its qualities. But in segments in which the visual appearance of a material or finished product is more important than its quality, “alternatives dominate”. This applies to many items that are mass-produced.

For Europe in particular, Market Intelligence came away from Milan with the clear conviction that  future success must involve “speed, service excellence, data-based quality and truthful storytelling”.
