World Leather August-September 2024 is out now

The latest issue of World Leather is available now at this link

This time, the magazine brings you the views of the chief executive of GSC, Adriano Serafini, on recent developments in leather chemicals and the overall situation in the global leather industry.

We follow this with a round-up from this year’s FILK Freiberg Leatherdays event and pick out a number of presentations from the conference that merit in-depth coverage. The articles arising from this cover traditional pastoralist systems, the rise of bio-based retanning and fatliquoring materials, and sustainable syntan options.

There are also features in the Technology section on innovation in drying and on automation in hide inspection.

Leather and the Circular Economy this time covers the ongoing horror of hunger, emphasising the need to maintain meat supply chains to help key nutrients reach as many people as possible in their most digestible form.

This section also covers the contribution leather has made to 50 years of the VW Golf. There is also an article about an encouraging trend among farmers to set up micro-tanneries for processing hides from their own cattle herds, and another about a company in France, Authentic Material, that is applying its technology to recycle leather waste.

Our cover story also comes from Leather and the Circular Economy. It is about a start-up in Mexico called Lebensstück (founder Lisa Dobler is originally from Austria) that celebrates leather’s longevity.

Finally, we have an article celebrating suede’s role in bringing brands and consumers back to leather through the retro sneakers trend.

We hope you enjoy reading all of the articles in this issue.
