Vietnamese province to boost leather and shoe production

The Vietnamese province of An Giang is boosting its footwear, leather and garment-making capabilities by setting up three industrial clusters and two industrial parks.

The province will focus on mid-level and high-end products to meet buyers’ requirements and create higher added value, according to local press.

Nguyen Minh Hùng, director of Vietnam's Department of Industry and Trade, said the area had grown its export markets in 2023, indicating improvements in quality and design.

In 2023, exports from the region reached $1.17 billion, an increase of 1%, with textiles, garments and footwear reaching $170 million. In the first quarter of 2024, exports increased by 5% to $300 million. Textiles, garments and footwear exports accounted for $60.8 million, a 15% increase, said the report.
