Australia - Red meat emissions decline
The Australian red meat industry has achieved a notable 78% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions since 2005, according to a recent report by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) in collaboration with the CSIRO.
The report, based on the 2021 Australian National Greenhouse Gas Inventory, highlights significant decreases in emissions attributed to beef, sheep, and goat production.
Julia Waite, MLA’s Carbon Neutral 2030 (CN30) Project Manager, credited changes in land use practices for this reduction, emphasising the industry's commitment to sustainable production. Further details on emissions reduction efforts will be presented at Beef Australia in Rockhampton.
MLA's ongoing investments in research and development, totalling $152 million since 2017, underscore its dedication to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The full report is available online for more information.
