Himeji Kurozan ‘honoured’ to continue Grand Seiko partnership

Sakamoto-owned Japanese leather manufacturer Himeji Kurozan will continue to supply luxury watchmaker Grand Seiko with its “Himeji black leather” material for the latter’s Kodo Constant-force Tourbillion, according to a report by Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association (JLIA).

The mechanical timepiece was first released in 2022, priced at just under $325,000 or ¥49.5 million.

Its main, Himeji black leather-made strap is first tanned naturally, before being coated with a white lacquer to produce a gradual ‘whitening’ effect over time. An alternative, charcoal grey crocodile skin strap is also included.

Himeji Kurozan, which calls Hyogo prefecture on the archipelago’s main island home, told JLIA that it was happy and honoured to continue its collaboration with the watchmaker, itself part of Japan’s Seiko group.
