08/03/2024

According to reports from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), Australian red meat production has increased, resulting in a surge in export volumes.

In February, beef exports rose by 33% YoY to 93,834 shipped weight tonnes (swt).
Japan became the largest market with exports lifting 43% YoY to 23,794 swt. Exports to the USA showed a significant rise of 83% YoY to 21,341 swt, while exports to China lifted by 26% YoY to 15,757 swt. The increase in exports to Japan coincided with the clearance of the meat backlog in cold storage, indicating strong demand for Australian beef in global markets.

In the same month, Australian lamb and mutton exports reached a record high. The US was the largest market for lamb, while China continued to lead in mutton exports. The biggest growth in mutton exports was to Saudi Arabia.

The US was also the biggest market for goat exports, with exports increasing in all major markets except China. South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, and Taiwan saw the highest growth in goat exports.
