UK to review Chamois import duty

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), in the UK, has initiated a transition review into an anti-dumping measure on chamois leather imported from China.

The TRA will be reviewing this measure, which was inherited from the EU, to determine whether it is still suitable for the UK's needs. The current anti-dumping duty amount applied to chamois leather from China is 58.9%.

The period of investigation for this transition review is 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023, and the injury period for the case is 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2023.

Businesses that may be affected by the measure can register their interest through the Trade Remedies Service by 6 March. Interested parties that register after this date may not be able to participate fully in the review. Any new case developments will be posted on the TRA's public file.

The Trade Remedies Authority is the official UK organisation responsible for examining whether new trade remedy measures are necessary to combat unfair import practices and unexpected increases in imports. Anti-dumping duties are a type of measure that permits a country or union to take action against goods that are being sold at a price lower than their normal value, which is defined as the price for "like goods" sold in the exporter's domestic market.
