Assopellettieri president calls for more help for exhibitors and for exhibitions

The president of Italy’s national leathergoods manufacturers’ association Assopellettieri, Claudia Sequi, has told Italy’s minister for business and ‘Made In Italy’, Adolfo Urso, that government support for small and medium-sized producers must increase.

Speaking at the 125th edition of the Mipel exhibition in Milan in February, Ms Sequi told the minister that Assopellettieri member companies need and deserve support to help them increase their levels of business in export markets.

She said two clear areas in which the government could give extra support were in helping companies attend exhibitions that attract good numbers of international buyers, and in supporting the exhibitions themselves. She added that events such as Mipel were an ideal stage on which to show off the fruits of the Made In Italy strategy.

Ms Sequi said 200 brands had travelled to Milan to display bags, accessories, gloves, belts and other leather products, targeting the autumn-winter 2024-2025 fashion season. She pointed out that 65% of the exhibitors were Italian companies. She told the minister that these companies represent a real driving force for Made In Italy in the international business environment.
