Consultancy helps Spinnova formalise production plant design

The package is not site-specific and can be used in planning the scaling up of production, regardless of the raw material base of the Spinnova fibre, said the companies.
The technology developed by Spinnova can be used to produce textile fibres from wood and waste streams such as leather, textile or agricultural waste without the use of harmful chemicals in the spinning process.
In 2021, Spinnova formed a joint venture with Ecco Leather and wet blue, crust and split supplier KT Trading called Respin. Respin involves taking fibre from leather waste to spin yarn that can then be woven or knitted.
The Finnish company has also teamed up with eucalyptus pulp supplier Suzano for a new facility, Woodspin, which will be producing commercial volumes in the coming months.
Teemu Lindberg, executive vice-president of production scaling at Spinnova, said: “The process design package preparation is a way to formalise the learnings gathered from Woodspin’s first factory and creates a scalable technology package for future plants. Initially, we will use the results of the preparatory work in the feasibility planning of Woodspin’s second plant. The same package can also be used more widely when planning factories that produce fibre from other than wood-based raw materials.”
