Adidas responds to kangaroo leather allegations
Sportswear group Adidas is currently under fire from animal rights activists who have accused them of "cruelly murdering" kangaroos for the production of football boots.
However, an Adidas spokesperson has clarified that the proportion of kangaroo leather used in these boots is less than 0.5% and that it is sourced exclusively from suppliers that are monitored and certified by the Australian government to ensure both animal welfare and species protection.
According to an activist campaign website, Adidas is the only major sports shoe manufacturer still using kangaroo leather.
