Another Star of Merit for Italy’s leather industry
The leather industry in Italy celebrated the award of another Stella al Merito del Lavoro (Star of Merit at Work) award on December 12.
The president of Italy confers this medal each year to people from the world of work who have given distinguished service and who stand out in terms of expertise and hard work.
Following the success of Silvateam’s Eric Poles earlier in the month, the latest recipient of the award is the production manager of the furniture business unit at leather manufacturer Gruppo Mastrotto, Tiziano Posenato.
Mr Posenato started work in the leather industry in Arzignano in 1978, at the age of just 14, joining the company that was then known as Conceria Fratelli Mastrotto.
In 1990, he became head of the drying department and moved to the wet blue department the following year. In 2004, he became production manager of the furniture business unit, with direct responsibility for Gruppo Mastrotto’s production sites in Italy and Croatia.
Throughout his career, the company has said, Tiziano Posenato he has been instrumental in bringing in important innovations, such as a new system for the overhead loading of barrels and systems for reducing the risk of accidents in the workplace.
On receiving the Star of Merit accolade, he commented: “I have been lucky, because I met people who let me make mistakes, who trusted, respected and supported me, and with whom I have always been able to engage in constructive exchanges. All this has definitely influenced my professional career and enabled me to come this far, to achieve an honour of which I am extremely proud.”
Chief executive of the furniture business unit, Graziano Mastrotto, praised Mr Posenato’s “profound knowledge of raw materials and processes” and said he had become a repsected and recognised leader in the industry. “He has always shared his expertise with his colleagues to solve problems and contribute to ongoing improvement. The Star of Merit fully reflects the commitment and dedication Tiziano has displayed over the years.”
He praised Tiziano Posenato’s “resilience, perseverance and humility” and said he hoped this achievement would inspire others.
