Surplus leather among circular touches in Hermès’ extended stores

Luxury brand Hermès has renovated and expanded three stores: in Bordeaux, France; Crans-Montana, Switzerland; and a third in Kyoto, Japan.

In the historic city centre since 1977, the Bordeaux store is a testament to the house’s attachment to the region and local customers. It expresses its confidence in France, where it has 28 stores.

As part of the house’s circular approach, all the materials used are natural and sourced in France, Portugal, or Italy. The furniture in the leathergoods area reveals the original natural stone.

An oak cabinet dedicated to wine pays homage to the wine-growing region. Made at Hermès by Ateliers Horizons, the case is wrapped with pieces of leather originating from unused materials within the house.

Its seasonal store in the Swiss mountain resort of Crans-Montana is set over two floors with an elegant redesign that fits with the spirit of the Alpine lifestyle.

The back of the store is home to the “leather universe”, along with a private salon for clients. Downstairs, the original floor plan is expanded, housing a selection of men’s ready-to wear, shoes, watches and jewellery while also showcasing the equestrian and homeware collections.

The expansion and design vision of Kyoto's only Hermès store reflects the house's longstanding presence in the city, with reverence to its cultural richness, distinctive architecture and abundant history. Hermes operates 35 stores in Japan.

Hermès is dedicated to keeping the majority of its production in France through its 54 workshops and production sites and to developing its network of more than 300 stores in 45 countries. The group employs 20,600 people worldwide, including 12,900 in France, of which nearly 7,000 are craftsmen.

Axel Dumas, a sixth-generation family member, has been Hermès CEO since 2013.
