China leads the way for Brazilian leather exports
Hide and leather exports from Brazil brought in revenues of more than $930 million in the first ten months of 2023. Compared to the same months in 2022, this represents a fall of 11.6%.
In terms of volume, the hides and skins Brazilian tanners shipped in the first ten months of this year had a combined area of 131 million square-metres, an increase of 10% year on year.
In its analysis of the figures, national tanning industry body CICB said China had been the most important market for shipments of leather and hides from Brazil in the January-October period in 2023.
Customers in China imported almost 50 million square-metres of Brazilian material over the period, paying around $260 million.
CICB said these figures meant an increase of 37.8% in volume year on year and a rise of 8.8% in value.
