Bags help Burberry build momentum
London-based luxury group Burberry has reported interim results of just under $1.4 billion for the first half of its current business year, the six months to September 30. This is an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period a year ago.
It said its leathergoods categories had performed well, with sales of leathergoods in comparable stores rising by 8% year on year. Drilling down further, it said sales of its leather bags were up by 14% year on year.
“We made good progress against our strategic goals, executing our priorities at pace,” said chief executive, Jonathan Akeroyd.
He added that Burberry was continuing to build momentum around “our new creative vision”. Its chief creative officer, Daniel Lee, arrived from Bottega Veneta just over a year ago. Burberry’s winter 2023 collection, which it launched in stores in September 2023 is the first designed by Daniel Lee.
