WWF joins deforestation-free call to action
In a significant development for the Deforestation-Free Call to Action for Leather, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has taken on a new role as a partner, alongside the Leather Working Group and Textile Exchange, working closely with signatories to develop deforestation and conversion-free supply chains. This will involve providing expert guidance, facilitating collaborative efforts, and assisting signatories in setting realistic expectations as they strive to put an end to deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems associated with cattle farming.
The Deforestation-Free Call to Action for Leather is a collaborative initiative involving various sectors. Its aim is to encourage brands and retailers to commit to sourcing all their bovine leather from deforestation-free supply chains by 2030 or earlier. The initiative provides a comprehensive roadmap for brands to follow to ensure they are sourcing from deforestation and conversion-free supply chains and also offers practical tools and guidance to assist them on their journey.
WWF has been an active participant in the NGO advisory group, working alongside the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) and the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi), providing valuable input into the workplan and tool development.
