Visitors welcome at Pompeii tannery

05/09/2023

Following the completion of a restoration project at an ancient tannery in Pompeii in July, the site will now form part of the usual itinerary for tourist visits to the site.

Pompeii was buried in ash from Vesuvius during an eruption of the volcano in 79AD.

Since the restoration project ended, with the support of Italy’s national tanning industry body, UNIC, a new information panel was added in August to explain to visitors how the tannery worked.

The tannery is now one of the attractions at Pompeii that is open to tourists every day.
