Leathersellers’ Company hosts industry dinner

London’s ancient leather industry guild, the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, hosted an industry dinner for tanners, footwear and accessory manufacturers and other representatives of the leather sector on May 11.

Around 90 people attended the event. Managing director of Hermès UK, Bertrand Michaud, was the guest of honour.

Mr Michaud paid tribute to the history and longevity of the Hermès company, having started as a leather harness manufacturer in 1837. Now in its sixth generation, the company employs over 6,000 crafts people and sells 1.5 million leather articles each year, representing 50% of their turnover.

“We have to show that we are relevant and worthwhile, doing so with our common values,  confidence, solidarity, exemplarity, exigence, enthusiasm, recognition, respect,  and discretion”.
